I am sitting on the floor of my Mum’s office, surrounded by mess, notebook and pen in hand. Mum’s convinced me to start a blog, sharing my feelings and …ugh. I think this is going to be a waste of time. Who’s going to want to read about my feelings and my life? My life is boring, believe me. All I do is read, write and eat. A lot.
We’re trying to come up with a name for this site. My brain is empty. Like a blank, white page. “Brainstorming is helpful,” Mum says, but it’s not. Inspired by…no. I really don’t…no. All you need is…no. Think, think, think…
Pausing, Mum says jokingly, “What about ilovecake.com?”
I laugh, saying, “I don’t like cake…” Then with a pause, “…but I’ll eat it anyway.”
Mum almost bursts with excitement. “That’s it!” she says to me. “That’s the one!”
I stare at her. Is she joking? I can’t call my website idontlikecakebutilleatitanyway.com. That would be silly.
“Call it idon’tlikecake.com,” Mum pleads, laughing. “It’s so you.”
We call it idontlikecake.com
Sadly, things aren’t so simple. About four hours later, when we should’ve been eating dinner, I change my mind. It needs to be something different. Something better.
I like that one. It works for me. Mum doesn’t like it. She thinks it’s weird.
As indecisive as we are, we ask for help to change the name of the website on WordPress’s chatroom. We have only seconds to decide now, because our chatroom helper is waiting for us.
“What about inspiredwriting.com?” Mum suggests.
Yes! That’s the one! It’s Murphy’s Law that the first one we both agree on is taken by someone else. What now?
“I’ve got an idea!” Mum exclaims.
She tells me, and I smile. This is the one.
So, here we are:
